Story of Kissebaaz
The film is narrated by the character of Pankaj Tripathi to a lady police inspector who escorts him to jail. He maintains that he is innocent, and accuses a Ramlal. The story starts with a mistaken identity case. A young man named Harsh (Rahul Bagga) is mistaken for Ramlal, and is abducted and attacked in Varanasi by two sets of goons. Soon the tale starts to take strange turns. You never know if Harsh is an innocent victim or a psychopath in scheming …
Basically Kissebaaz is a vengeance drama set in Varanasi. The film’s basic concept — of a nameless man being deceived by circumstances — is just about right. Execution, however, is all over the place. The writing is, to say the least, abysmal and the editing is absolutely inexistent.
You don’t know what the director really wants to convey to the audience as the movie moves from one plot point to another without any sort of coherence. Non-linear progression has been employed to confuse the viewer. But it seems like the program has been boomeranged, as the director seems to be clueless. The prices for the input should have been higher.
Competent actors such as Zakir Hussain and Rajesh Sharma were cast as villains in B-movie here. Such are their antics that you feel as though you were transported back to the 1980s.
Rahul Bagga tries his utmost to show himself as the clueless hero. Pankaj Tripathi is the only bright spot in the film, which is making a valiant effort to keep things afloat. Alas, not even his histrionics suffice to save this sinking ship …
