The best instance of this is the latest series of BBC and Amazon Prime videos. The new “Small Axe” Anthology film series brings to the screen numerous untold tales.

Series director Steve McQueen introduced a set of five original movies from the West Indian community of London from the late 1960s to the mid-1980s. He follows a reference proverb commemorated throughout the series in a song by Bob Marley, “If you are big, we are the Small axe.”

McQueen, an Oscar-winning director known for famous films such as 12 Years a Slave, Widows, Hunger, Shame, unfolds the West Indian community’s dreams, suffering, lives, joys, and resilience through the five main storeys. He claims these tales are storeys from the United Kingdom or British storeys that should be known to everyone.
