The Empire Web Series Download: Watch Disney+ Hotstar Epic Drama For Free

In Disney+ Hotstar’s persistently uninteresting adaptation of Alex Rutherford’s Mughal era novels, a potentially engaging storey of palace intrigue is squandered.

The Empire would be inadvertently hilarious if it wasn’t so terribly dull, with entire sequences copied from Game of Thrones, forts that seem like they’re constructed of foam, and stone floors that wobble when people fall on them. I’m curious when Disney+ Hotstar will realise that boasting about its titles always backfires. OK Computer wasn’t India’s first science-fiction comedy, and The Empire isn’t “the biggest programme created in India” based on its shoddy CGI and cheap prosthetics.

Season 1 of the show, directed by Mitakshara Kumar and written by Nikkhil Advani and Emmay Entertainment, is based on the first volume of the six-part series ‘Raiders from the North.’ Babur, a Timurid warrior confident of the greatness of his bloodline, seeks an empire worthy of it in the opening chapter of the epic narrative. Hindustan is a distant dream, but it is a dream that never ends. Babur must first manage a weak, embryonic empire and overcome his local rivals before embarking on what he perceives as his destiny.

The show’s illogical plotting and staging are what make it a mixed bag – it favours the bottom end more than the top, to be honest. It is obvious that the presentation is not a historical account. While I am unfamiliar with the source material, what you witness in this first season is a weirdly boring tale that starts with Babur’s adolescence and ends as late in his life as it possible can, all while laying the stage for the seasons to come.

There are a lot of clichés. Look no farther than the polygamous ruler’s neglected wife, who believes her son, not the more favoured begum’s cooler youngster, is deserving of the crown. There are two of them in the first season alone, and this stealing of Kaikeyi’s thunder is only one of The Empire’s numerous been-there-done-that moments.

The Empire is difficult to recommend, much like a season eight episode of Game of Thrones directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali (not a compliment). Perhaps its most significant contribution to the entertainment industry as a whole is preparing Karan Johar for success if he ever makes Takht.
